Excited about moving into her new apartment, her plans suddenly change when it isn’t ready and Clara needs a temporary place to live. It’s no surprise that someone from the Bennett clan offers her a solution, things get interesting when said person is Blake, the one Bennett that Clara feels a strong attraction to.

“The real question is how will you resist him while you live next door?” Penny pushes.

“Excellent question. My rational side says he’s a great friend, and his family treats you like one of their own, so you’d better not mingle. My dark side says, he’s hot and single, and he’d know how to make your lady parts tingle.”

Clara Abernathy is a strong, hardworking woman who is afraid to put herself out there in many different ways. She’s an artist and loves making illustrations for children’s books, but rather consider her passion a hobby and not risk a safe income. Same happens to her in love. She has feelings for one of the Bennett brothers for quite some time, but rather hide them than risk the relationship she has nourished with the family. Once upon a time she was familyless, so risking the connection she has with the Bennetts is not an option. Even if what she feels for Blake is more than anything she’s ever felt for a man.

“What about you?” he asks. “Do you date much?”

“I try, but I keep meeting men who want different things than I do. They are looking for fun or just hanging out in a friend-with-benefits sort of way.”

“What are you looking for?”

“I want a family, so someone nice and dependable. Someone safe and not argumentative. Trustworthy. I know some people think safe is boring, but I don’t think that at all. I think is just… safe.”

Blake Bennet is, and Clara puts it, Blakelicious. He’s everything a woman wants in her life: He’s intelligent, handsome, hardworking, and loaded (in every sense). He comes from a lovely family, and because they love him, they meddle in his relationship with Clara. He’s known to be a bit of a player, and has never acted on his feelings for her, but as Clara moves to the apartment next door, it becomes inevitable for him to act on his attraction towards her.

“You want safe and─what was that word? Nonargumentative. Don’t think anyone ever used those words to describe me.” Leaning even closer, he adds in low baritone, “But you want this─us─even more.”

Their living situation and dynamics are super fun and sexy.

“This is so inconvenient. The corridor is too small, and you’re far too hot.”

The Bennet family is a great group of people. I don’t blame Clara at all for guarding her place as a “family friend.” What she doesn’t realize is that by protecting said place in the family she is also limiting herself to really belong to the clan, and more importantly, find true love with Blake.

We’re nine siblings in total, and six are married. Single people are a disappearing species in my family. Summer, my twin brother Daniel, and I are the last remaining musketeers.

It is the first book of the series that I’ve read, and I can’t wait to read the rest. I had no problem following the story even if this is the seventh book.

Clara and Blake are a great pair. I love getting to know them as individuals and as a couple. Their relationship and dynamic is fun and so very hot. I found the book sexy and entertaining. It’s a great read!
